Compare the pair

One has fur all over its body. The other is a apple and raspberry pie. Same age, same income. Same super contributions. One is heavier than the other, but only just.

Yesterday, Squirrel was volunteering at her uni's open day in Bendigo, and afterwards got lunch with Puffin, Meerkat, Mumma Bear and Badger. We headed to Malmsbury, and picked up a pie at the local bakery. And a gorgeous pie it is too. what we weren't counting on though, was the price, a staggering $29.90

That said, it was easily the most delicious pie ever and would have fed about 10 people easily.

Today then, Squirrel and Mumma Bear headed to National Tiles to have a bit of a look at some tiles and prices.Working on an estimate of 2.4 square meters, here are our quotes.

These large, mosaic-esque tiles in either white or silver came in at $277.20 for the area in the kitchen.

These glass, white/grey tiles came in at $640.00

And I forgot to take a photo of my favorites but these (in the bottom left corner) came in at $798.00.

The thing is, this kitchen below is the look we are aiming for. You will notice that it is not, in fact, tiled. It is a splashback. From what I read on the interwebz, glass splashbacks start at around $400 per square meter. Which unfortunately is mighty close to how much those last tiles are ($332 per square meter). So now I'm a little stumped as to what to do. I don't want to go all white as I think the kitchen needs a little colour. I don't want to go stone because I feel it will draw attention to the fact that the benchtops aren't stone. I don't think those silver ones up above there are the go either as they're a bit too blingy. So I'm not sure if we should just cough up the price for splashbacks and be done with it - they are a hell of a lot easier to clean. Hmm.

In other news, Squirrel and Puffin spent their first night at the house last night! Puffin has now almost finished moving out, but obviously, lacking a kitchen and a great deal of lighting is making this a bit tricky. Squirrel is waiting until her semester is over (End of Oct/start of Nov) to move in.

And that's about all here - I'm about to duck over there now to finish off that dining set and bring it inside, and then to start sorting out some of the mess. I'm feeling a bit... odd, about the splashbacks, be they tile or other. Hmm!!!!
