You know inside you feel, right at home, here.

There's something lovely about a linen tea towel. Even lovelier is a tea towel which reflects the style of the homeowner - rather than the old '3 pack of tea towels from the supermarket'. I've always been a fan of framing tea towels, and oh, look what we have here. Not one, but two framed tea towels in Squirrels room at her parents house. (It's getting awfully confusing when we say 'home' at the moment, because it could mean upwards of 3 different houses)

So here are some more that I've got my eye on, c/o Etsy. Otherwise known as heaven. If heaven is filled with linen tea towels and steak and Star Trek t-shirts, I'll be happy.

Pac-man massacre, $21.23, from here.

How to make Pancakes, $18.94, from here.

SQUIRREL, $11.48, from here

I said whip it, whip it good. And no-one wants to be defeated, $20.66, from here

The tea towel for a shameless carnivore, $30.32, from here

Hexagon loveliness, $18.00 from here (also - Melbourne made!)

Covert yo-self, $22.95 from here

And how about this for a gorgeous idea - your recipes on a tea towel! 3 tea towels for $68.86, from here.

You might as well be walkin' on the sun.

And now, you've asked for it... the top 9 pillow count down!!! What do you mean you didn't ask for it? Are you suggesting this blog is simply my way of indulging in things that interest myself alone? Whatever. You don't know me. You don't know my story.

Who loves anchors? I love anchors. $20.64, from here.

Pretty pastel triangles, $39.00, from here.

Need some medical attention? Don't worry, I'm a half nurse, I've got this covered. $59.64, from here.

A gorgeous cat pillow, reminiscent of the book, The Coach in the Picture, $42.76, from here.

Stags! The perpetual love of interior fans everywhere, $29.95, from here.

Oh, geometric patterns, I just can't get enough of you. $34.41, from here.

Been wondering how to make an Origami Owl? This pillow can help, $25.23, from here.

More geometric love, and a little bit of cube love too. $45.88 from here.

$55.05 from the interestingly titled shop, 'First Llama in Space', here.

So tell me bloggers, what's your favorite? Got any recommendations for us?

H.R Puffin-stuff.

During the week, Puffin and I were headed outside, and turned around to an unexpected site. Six sliding doors. Puffin didn't put them there. Squirrel didn't put them there. We hadn't ordered them either. We had wanted sliding doors for our two double wardrobes, to save a bit of space, but didn't think that by wishing it to be so, they could simply turn up. But maybe out outdoor area is a replicator, ala Star Trek, and if I think long and hard enough about things I want, they will eventually all end up in our outdoor area. *thinks about Freedom and Country Road gift vouchers*

Or perhaps Puffin and I are sleep-door-thieves, and have been sleep walking all over town, thieving doors.

As it turns out, they had been delivered by Gary earlier that morning. But now Puffin and I are wondering what to do with them, as our master bedroom has full length mirrors on the inside of the doors, and if we swapped out the doors we would lose these mirrors. Which leads me to one of today's task - heading to my friends at What Knots to see if they are able to cut down and frame a mirror that I bring to them, to that we may have a free standing mirror both in the master bedroom, and the entrance way (Good thinking on that one Puffin!)

Squirrel has also gone and checked out some other stuff for the house - with a quick stop at Ikea (where she found the perfect flour/sugar/oat jars) before she ventured to Perini tiles. When I posted about our tiles a few weeks ago, I had been looking at Academy Tiles in Richmond. Well, I got my quote, and I was happy with it, but they required me to order a minimum of 5 square meters, and would not be available until at least mid way through November. Which posed issues around how we will protect the splashback area in the meantime, and also means when we have a housewarming, our kitchen won't be 'finished' which is a vanity thing more than anything. And ordering 5 square meters skyrockets the price, and leaves us with more tiles than we would know what to do with.

So on the recommendation of the incredibly lovely Stacey, I checked out Perini tiles. Here, we struck gold. The same tiles were $30 less, and there was no minimum quantity! Because these will likely be ordered while Puffin is overseas, Squirrel checked them out in person and took some photos to make sure they were o-k.

When I got there though, there were two similar tiles, the ones I had inquired about, which actually came in a rectangle and were a stark white; then these below, which were *just* off white, and came in the hexagon. These are $8 more per square meter, but are available now!!! WINNER!

The photo above is over the top of a ceaserstone sample which is near identical to our laminex - see below for a comparison. So we're pretty happy with this, will grout it in a white, and this girl will be doing the tiling!

Later that day, we got another of our electrical work quotes back. While this quote was significantly better than the first, Puffin had forgotten to mention about half of the work required. So Squirrel put him in her parents washing machine. On the delicate setting.

And in horrifying news, we had our first spider incident!!! A big bad-ass huntsman. Puffin was shocked at the amount of screaming Squirrel did when it fell to the ground when he was getting it, and the huntsman lost a leg in the process. Squirrel screamed until the spare leg was removed as well; on the off chance that the single leg regenerated into a huge spider. Perhaps Aragon.

Today, Squirrel is going to investigate about those mirrors, and head to the carpet joint to see if they can joint and over-lock a section of carpet to go under the massage table. Then I'll place a call to our kitchen guy to add a under-bench rubbish bin. Oh, and I guess I better get some uni work done, too. Until next time, sweet bloggers.

Take your protein pills and put your helmet on.

Well we better start off with some shout outs. On the back of the last posts, for lovers of linen, we received a lot of love from Meerkat, Ria, Nat, Stac and the beautiful Gabby. We love hearing from readers of this blog, it really gives us a buzz to know people are reading. Your website recommendations were both appreciated and cursed, as they have provided another delightful way to squander funds. If we had any. Which of course, we don't.

But from the money we have made from prostitution (are we kidding? That's for you to find out) this week, we have ordered our frosted decal for the front door! I can't wait until this arrives, in about two weeks which happily coincides with the new kitchen arriving!

While we wait for things to arrive, we're going to be over here, twerking our asses off, and wondering just how on earth Big Brother is permitted on air (we have concluded it must be because they've all allowed themselves to be part of a psychological study, and have also signed up for organ donation. And that the organs are taken before they leave the house.)

I need dis

A little while ago I decided to buy a new King size doona, and have, ever since, been searching for an awesome bed spread. Here is where the search has taken me so far! From Adiars - $179.

The next few are all from DENY designs. This is a really cool concept and I encourage you to check them out here. All $299 for King size (ouch, big ouch)

What do you think guys? Got any recommendations for us?

Bicycle races are coming your way, So forget all your duties oh yeah.

Well look what we have here - new curtains! (Installed by Gary!) Below is a before & after of the curtains in the lounge room - I just feel I need to say that the second photo was taken late in the day with a flash and again, makes the room look overly blue/grey/like a soul-less rental property.

So here is a photo without the flash. In the lounge room we have what I think are called M-screens - we can see out, and no one can see in - unless we have lights on. Eventually we will combine this with blockout blinds but these things aren't cheap!

And then the master bedroom - so this is a blockout, and there is no screen under this, again, this will happen down the track when there is more cash! I also feel the need to explain that Puffin, in an act of Puffin-y defiance, moved his bedroom suite into the master bedroom instead of it's final destination, the spare room, until Squirrel moves in with her bedroom suite.

So, to some pretty things!! Here are 3 of the million things we want on the walls - the first two being prints from Viktor Hertz. I loved the Beatles one (look at the Octopus's Garden! awww) and then got the Rolling Stones one for free!! I love the red door being painted black. So clever. To check out more of this awesome Swedish designers work, click here.

And then, brought back from London by the Meerkat - a London Tube tea towel! I've always loved having tea towels framed, and now can look forward to another one!

Now all that remains is to work out where everything will go!! In other news,  we got a quote for the tiles!!!!!!!!!!!! There are many exclamation points here a)because I'm never allowed to use them at uni, and b)because I am very excited about this.
If you remember from the last post, Squirrel had identified a number of sexy, sexy, geometric splashback tiles. If you remember the ones called the 'cube
from a Turkish designer? Well, we got a quote from Perini Tiles in Richmond for $130 per square meter. Obvioulsy, you can get tiles cheaper that this, but you know what, we don't care. Those are friggin awesome. And it's sooooo much cheaper than glass! We'll have to wait until mid-November but that's fine by us!!

Tuesday 20 August 2013

Oh, well, then you know all about it and what a terrible country it is. Nothing but desolate wastes and fierce beasts. And the poor little Oompa Loompas were so small and helpless, they would get gobbled up right and left. A Wangdoodle would eat ten of them for breakfast and think nothing of it. And so, I said, "Come and live with me in peace and safety, away from all the Wangdoodles, and Hornswogglers, and Snozzwangers, and rotten, Vermicious Knids."

Aha! Maybe here is an alternative to glass tiles - GORGEOUS porcelain tiles! A few months ago when browsing the Home Decor boards on Pinterest I saw some really lovely geometric tiles. Tonight, when looking at tile splashbacks on Google in despair, I thought I'd look at the tiles I had pinned, sure that, like most things on Pinterest, it would lead to a dead end or an American webpage. Imagine my sheer delight when I saw that it had a working link that took me to a) not only a webpage that was Australian, but b) had a retail store only 45 minutes from our house! I've excitedly emailed them for a quote which I hope to have by the end of the week. And here they are, from Academy Tiles in Richmond.

These are the Cube tile, and come from Turkey.

Hexagono Mosaic - these all have a different pattern which is kinda funky. I don't think these would be the go for a splashback, but I'm interested anyway.

The loft tile. I love these. I love anything geometric at the moment.

And the Triangle tile. These remind me of the Issy Miyake handbags I love and will never.ever be able to afford.

I am so excited to get these quotes back, I really think this might be the perfect alternative! This place is so amazing you all need to go and check out the webpage and Facebook page right now!!!

Get on it!

Compare the pair

One has fur all over its body. The other is a apple and raspberry pie. Same age, same income. Same super contributions. One is heavier than the other, but only just.

Yesterday, Squirrel was volunteering at her uni's open day in Bendigo, and afterwards got lunch with Puffin, Meerkat, Mumma Bear and Badger. We headed to Malmsbury, and picked up a pie at the local bakery. And a gorgeous pie it is too. what we weren't counting on though, was the price, a staggering $29.90

That said, it was easily the most delicious pie ever and would have fed about 10 people easily.

Today then, Squirrel and Mumma Bear headed to National Tiles to have a bit of a look at some tiles and prices.Working on an estimate of 2.4 square meters, here are our quotes.

These large, mosaic-esque tiles in either white or silver came in at $277.20 for the area in the kitchen.

These glass, white/grey tiles came in at $640.00

And I forgot to take a photo of my favorites but these (in the bottom left corner) came in at $798.00.

The thing is, this kitchen below is the look we are aiming for. You will notice that it is not, in fact, tiled. It is a splashback. From what I read on the interwebz, glass splashbacks start at around $400 per square meter. Which unfortunately is mighty close to how much those last tiles are ($332 per square meter). So now I'm a little stumped as to what to do. I don't want to go all white as I think the kitchen needs a little colour. I don't want to go stone because I feel it will draw attention to the fact that the benchtops aren't stone. I don't think those silver ones up above there are the go either as they're a bit too blingy. So I'm not sure if we should just cough up the price for splashbacks and be done with it - they are a hell of a lot easier to clean. Hmm.

In other news, Squirrel and Puffin spent their first night at the house last night! Puffin has now almost finished moving out, but obviously, lacking a kitchen and a great deal of lighting is making this a bit tricky. Squirrel is waiting until her semester is over (End of Oct/start of Nov) to move in.

And that's about all here - I'm about to duck over there now to finish off that dining set and bring it inside, and then to start sorting out some of the mess. I'm feeling a bit... odd, about the splashbacks, be they tile or other. Hmm!!!!
