Do or Do Not, There is No Try.

Which of course refers to the big project, the kitchen, although the word ‘try’ could also be substituted for the word ‘research’. Before I knew it, the kitchen had been ripped out and chucked out before we had sourced so much as one quote for a new kitchen.

We now have an empty kitchen/dining room, which is waiting for us to make some decisions about a new kitchen, the most financially achievable being: put a BBQ in the kitchen and maybe a sink too.

Since this type of design falls more into ‘Bogan chic’ than the streamlined Scandinavian/Mid 50’s Modern/Vaguely Industrial/Generally stylish look I am going for, this is probably not going to be given the go ahead.

Instead, we have sourced quotes from some Flat-Pac companies; Ikea, Bunnings, Masters and Kitset. We’ve also sourced quotes from local cabinet makers and are still waiting to finalise these. What we have finalised though is the look we’re after – white gloss cabinetry, with a white top and a mint glass splashback, somewhat similar to this one (Actually, let's be honest, it's exactly like this one).

Initially, we had hoped for Ceasarstone tops, but after seeing how much these are likely to cost, we have reneged in favour of Laminex – specifically the Diamond Gloss range; either the Pure Mineralstone (as seen above, with splashback), or the 180fx Carerra Marble – we will go to the showroom in Corio closer to install to have a look at large scale samples. To give you, dear reader, an idea of how good this can indeed look, see below.

We’ve also decided on the feature pendant lights which will fall over the island section of our bench – these beaker shaped lights from Beacon lighting.

I love the Scandi/industrial look these have, and also love that the shades being glass will help keep the kitchen light and bright.

So, while I obsess over 2-pac Versus Vinyl wraps, and the pros and cons of glossy laminex, I will leave it here until next time – where I will show you the progress so far to the house of Squirrel&Puffin.
